Andy and I left on Wednesday, June 9th 2010 for our excursion of Europe. We left Omaha, flew into Chicago, which took us to NYC where we had to completely change airports (yes, we made it with plenty of time to spare…phew!). This flight took us to Dublin, which then flew into Rome. I suppose Andy was right that even though that’s a heck of a lot of connections, it saved us plenty of money and we didn’t have any issues. We flew into Rome around noon and spent the rest of the day exploring the area of town we are in.
Since we are going all over Europe, we needed trainpasses (which we already have) but needed to book specific reservations at the train stop. So, out we went…..about 30 minutes into the walk I began to limp, then walk at a snail pace and finally begin to moan and complain (ok, maybe reverse that order!). Yes, I had gotten a pussy, painful blister. It was not long before the other foot wanted in on the action as well. By the time we had gotten to the train, I was miserable. To paraphrase, Andy said to suck it up and take the 45 minute(ish) walk back. By the time we arrived back at the hotel, my blister was almost quarter sized! Ouch! I was of course more ticked off at myself than anything for not breaking in the shoes before the trip, so it was nobody else’s fault but my own.
Luckily, we had a great bottle of Moscato and some Gelato to take my mind off the inconvenience. Pistachio and Cannola were absolutely divine choices for our neighborhood stroll!
